Enter Error
Recently Facebook introduced a new function that allowed users to post comments simply by hitting ‘Return’. It's aim is to speed up communication, make everyones lives easier and, clearly, to increase usage.
I applaud Facebook's motives here — I'm all for getting things done quicker, and if that means not even reaching for the trackpad all the better. However, it doesn't work. Facebook comments are often (in my experience) longer than tweets and text messages, containing paragraphs and line breaks. This leads to the above.
So, it doesn't work on Facebook, but that doesn't mean it couldn't on say, Twitter. I can count the times I've wanted a new paragraph in a tweet on one hand. Couple that with a character limit that frowns on wasted space and Twitter is ripe for this.
I doubt we'll lose it on Facebook, but I wonder if we'll see it in the other casino on the social strip any time soon.
